FireSmart Property Assessments

BC’s Regional District Governments have been providing rural property owners these assessments at no charge since 2019. We work under contract to conduct the assessments, which involves a comprehensive evaluation of a property’s fire resilience. While on site we’ll cover recommendations to potentially save a home in the event of a wildland-urban interface fire. There is currently a $500 cash incentive available to the home owner after the FireSmart improvements have been made.

In many instances, the security of properties and municipalities can be enhanced with a few straight-forward changes and strategies, established by FireSmart Canada. With increasing drought conditions and longer summers, every effort to defend against an oncoming fire threat has never been more prudent. A group of connected properties that have met the FireSmart guidelines will provide a fuel break, and can actually slow and stop a running crown fire.

If you are the owner of a rural property in Golden or Area A, you are eligible to take advantage of this free service the CSRD is providing. The program is funded by the Province of BC. Click here to learn more and sign up for a free assessment of your property.

If you’d like conduct your own property assessment, you can access all the information here. For details on recommended plants to have around your home, the landscape guide is here.

There is nothing better than having someone at your home giving you evidence-based advice on how to protect your home as much as possible from fire.
